Uttoxeter Racecourse looks back, and looks forward

Hard on the heels of one of the most successful years in its long and prestigious history, Uttoxeter Racecourse is already promising more of the same for the year ahead.

The racecourse’s six-of-the-best all make a welcome return to Staffordshire in 2017; but there are will be plenty of new faces, and new races, to ensure regulars keep coming back, and to tempt newcomers to sample a ‘Day At The Races’.

Regular highlights include the second longest Steeplechase in the country, The Betfred Midlands Grand National which, next year, will be run on Saturday 18 March; and Ladies Night and Ladies Day on Thursday 15 June, and Friday 28 July, respectively.

Combining a full day of racing with the appearance of a top band in the evening, Music Live Raceday will return again on Saturday 20 May. And while the Summer Cup on Sunday 2 July will once again mark the most valuable steeplechase event on the nation’s horseracing calendar, the Beer Festival Raceday on Saturday 18 November is once again guaranteed to be one of the most popular days-out of the year.

Uttoxeter Racecourse, however, is also introducing several newly themed racedays to its 2017 line up of entertainment and top sporting action, including: the Staffordshire Plate Raceday on Saturday 6 May; an Irish Racenight on Tuesday 11 July; a Big Summer BBQ on Sunday 30 July; a 1907 Raceday Thursday on 19 October; and a Money Where Your Mouth Is Raceday on Tuesday 12 December.

These will all join four other themed racedays which made successful appearances on the 2016 calendar: the Oktoberfest on Sunday 8 October; the Gentlemen’s Day Friday on 3 November; as well as the traditional Christmas Party Raceday on Friday 22 December and New Year’s Eve Raceday on Sunday 31 December.

Seven further Super Saturday or Afternoon Racedays are also included in the line-up for 2017.

Executive Director of Uttoxeter Racecourse, David MacDonald who, himself, has just marked a decade at the racecourse said, “2016 has been a landmark year for Uttoxeter Racecourse in so many ways. It’s a year when we’ve been named amongst the finalists for a prestigious award at the Racecourse Association’s annual Showcase Awards, as well as the year when our fabulous new glass-fronted restaurant, 1907, finally opened its doors to the public.

“We’ve also welcomed some top name entertainers – including Jo Whiley and Vernon Kay – and held a sell-out performance by The Human League.

“The racing itself has also been exceptional – and we’ve been very proud to host some of the biggest names in the sport here, in Staffordshire.”

Further details of the 2017 schedule will be announced during the course of the coming year.
